Possible Bearable Life Challenges
Working at school is different now. This is not all of a sudden different. It is a slow set of changes that eat away at the fabric of what learning is all about. I am still determined to have my students enjoy reading as a lifetime skill and enjoy learning as way to make the challenges of life more bearable.

Perceived Obstacles/Challenges to Learning and Possible SOLUTIONS
Perceived Obstacles/Challenges to Learning and Possible SOLUTIONS
· Limited Vocabulary
SOLUTION: DAILY Vocabulary practice
· Poor Reading Habits
SOLUTION: DAILY Reading practice
· Various levels in the same classroom (How do I meet all my students needs?)
SOLUTION: Focus on good students first, it is not their fault that other students have needs or issues; focus on all others second
· Time - PLC, Shared lessons, Prep period – not enough hours in the day
SOLUTION: Document; don’t let negativity consume you; be realistic about what you can do and what you will do
· Overloaded teacher (too many demands)
SOLUTION: TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF – Mental, Physical and Spiritual; Document; YOUR WELL BEING IS IMPORTANT; be realistic about what you can do
· Too much work to produce quality teaching
SOLUTION: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; Set SMART Goals
· Lack of parental involvement
SOLUTION: Decide how much and what kind of parental involvement you want; be realistic about expectations, yours, students and parents
· Students are unmotivated, undisciplined and uninterested
SOLUTION: Are all students this way? Or is it just a few? Document; don’t let negative students consume you, your time, or other students time; be realistic about what you will put up with; get support from admin
· Lack of consistency
SOLUTION: Establish and maintain your routine; BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND; Set SMART Goals; Decide how you can have success daily
· Negativity and unrealistic expectations
SOLUTION: TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF – Mental, Physical and Spiritual; Document; YOUR WELL BEING IS IMPORTANT; Listen to and talk to your colleagues and share your concerns; you are not the only teacher on campus
· Disruptive students, LEP students and SPED students
SOLUTION: Are all students this way? Or is it just a few? Document; don’t let students with issues consume you, your time, or other students time; be realistic about what you can do and what students can do
· Lack of knowledge, appreciation, understanding and support from admin
SOLUTION: Put yourself in the place of an administrator. Good or bad they are the persons in charge. Ask yourself what you want from them; ask yourself what you need from them; decide how you are going to get it; and pray for them. TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF – Mental, Physical and Spiritual; Document; YOUR WELL BEING IS IMPORTANT; establish and maintain SMART goals for yourself.

We did well!
Our scores are pretty good and the growth over the last three years has been awesome. Statewide, the Science was a challenge for all schools.

Science and Social Studies Tests
I am trying not to give any homework and trying to have my students complete all of the work in class so that they can focus on the Science and Social Studies TAKS tests that are coming up! Good luck!

The Diary Anne Frank
I have some incredible work from some of my 8th grade students! I also have some incredibly lame work from some of my 8th grade students. You must take the good with the bad and figure out how to make the bad work for you any way!

TAKS Scores
We did ok! We only have a few 8th graders who did not pass the first administration of the TAKS reading test! We are working to help them be successful now!

Using a Mac
I got this ibook working! I am trying to figure out ways to use the existing technology. I am also tryiing to access Web 2.O applications with my students. Yes, another project. The thing about projects, is that you can't wait til they line up. Projects are like objects that a juggler keeps up in the air: you gotta keep your hands on them so that they stay up in the air.

TAKS Preparation
We have prepared as much as possible for the TAKS Reading test! My eyes hurt, my feet hurt and my brain hurts, but so do the eyes, feet and brains of my students.
Tuesday for 8th grade Reading and 7th grade writing at our school! Pray for our students that they pass the TAKS Reading Test. Thank you!

I am so busy that I have not had the time to blog!
I am taking care of many things, but I need to take care of my things too! It is good to be back! Happy New Year! Happy New President! Happy to work so hard for my children. I need to work hard for myself also! I am still humble and glad to be here!
